Will the PSP2 ever see the light of day?

Rumors having been swirling for years that a new more powerful PSP might hit the market. It was rumored that the PSP2 might make an appearance at one of the various game conventions throughout the year. But as E3 and TGS passed by with no PSP2 sighting, it seems less likely the device will hit the market any time soon.

Although Sony refuses to address the rumors about the device even existing, various studio executives claim to have laid eyes on the device. When asked by gaming site CVG whether he had "any exposure at all" to the supposed PSP2, EA senior vice president Patrick Soderlund replied by saying "Well, obviously as a developer we have had that." But followed up by saying "I'm not allowed to talk about it." Mortal Kombat executive producer Shaun Himmerick has also admitted to having the device "in house."

The picture above is only an artists rendering but it stems from these supposed specs: A higher resolution screen, larger display, dual analog sticks, a rear-facing touch pad, and 1GB of RAM (double that of the XBOX 360).

One has to wonder if Sony is intentionality allowing these leaks to happen or just blowing smoke with the questionable PSP Phone. Possibly these 2 devices could be one in the same? Either way the anticipation is reaching it's breaking point for any legitimate word from Sony. Solid Snake might need to be sent in to divulge the truth!
